Hello all,
what is that three people? I am just trying this out for the first time and I like it. I have always thought I could be good with computers. Not phenomenal, but just good. So exciting news. My sister and brother in law Maureen and Mike had their first baby this past weekend. I am so excited for them and I think about all the things they will go through. I think about all the learning that goes on and why we can't speed that up. I learned so much, but I always found that people hadn't told me about this or that, and I wonder why. I guess it doesn't come to mind or people don't want to be pushy with their views. I say go for it and simply preempt your advice with "hey this is what worked for me." I gotta go call them.

Real Men Cook
Rule 1) I have read and now agree that it takes time to get your kids to eat the way you want them to, so be patient.
Rule 2) Make small portions, especially when you are experimenting.
Rule 3) I LIKE to play with my kid, so the Crock pot has begun to take a new role in my life. There are books out there on the subject, but fellas-use this tool! Set and FORGET IT. I love it. Personally, I use a crock pot I can fine tune the temperature. I think you become a better cook by this. Look for one with actual temperatures at the dial. I learned to weld by learning about heat and it's uses-same principle here.
Recipes:
Cheezy hotdogs-add cheese to a dog and then see if they eat it.
Anything with Mac and Cheese- Mainly I use this for veggies, yeah they will pick, but eventually follow rule number one.
Chicken Quesadillas- heck anything quesa is great! This could be a fun way to spice up lunch or dinner for the kids
Homemade pizza- Expect a cleanup of flour, don't do it before company comes over, but the kids will enjoy choosing something to put on it and your wallet will enjoy it's cheapness. I got a pizza maker for a gift with a circular pan, so I can cook it that way, but the oven works too. Grab dough at a local italian bakery for a buck per pie. I freeze two or three to keep my "running out" to a minimum.
Meatloaf in cupcake cups- self explanatory, but I add shredded cheese and barbeque sauce in my mix.
Pasta in salads-If your kid likes Pasta, they now like your salad as well.
Tips:
I belong to a mom's group through my church and they have so many good ideas, I am so impressed. One thing I have practiced is that when I cut up veggies/fruit I cut up for a few days, not just the present time. It takes more time and the children will have to occupy themselves, but the next couple of times you pull those tupperwares out you will feel so good at how fast you just served something. Not to mention, having some "Ready Veggies" there when you are making a meal and they are grabbing a hold of your legs, whining, crying, complaining about your speed, etc.- tell them to take the tupperware, and they will eat veggies.
That thought leads me to another tip-starve your kids. It has helped me a ton to keep the snacks to a minimum. When I serve, they are READY.
